TPSF12C1: Use in DC-DC converter

Hi,

We want to use it in DC microgrid connected converter for off board charger. Only application suggested is in OBC charger. Can we use it in high power ~30 kW grid connected DC-DC converter?

Also device power supply is referenced to Earth (generally the module chassis), is it ok to have isolated DC-DC converter with output ground shorted to chassis.

Hi Jitendra,

Yes, DC/Dc should be fine. And isolated power supply tied to chassis GND is good. Keep the ripple amplitude low.

Hi Timothy,

Thanks. One more question is that we want to suppress EMI both at input stage and output stage. As the device itself is electrically isolated from the line, can we use two devices running from the same power supply. One of them will work for input DC stage and other one will work for output DC stage.

Yes, that should be fine if it’s the same GND reference.

Hi Timothy,

In the application examples, device is used between series connection of two common mode chokes. Is it necessary to have two common mode chokes in series or can we have only single choke.

In this case what would be the appropriate position of the device, converter side or grid side. Thanks.

Hi Jitendra,

Better to split the CM chokes if you currently have a single-stage filter. This provides impedance to both grid and regulator sides, especially as the grid source impedance can be very variable. Note the quickstart file helps with stability when the choke impedance parameters are entered.

Dear Timothy,

Thanks. As our application is DC-DC converter, we are analyzing if we can use 4 line common mode choke. 4 line choke is split as 2x2 line common mode choke with sense and injection in between 2 CM chokes with TPSF12C1.

Can you suggest if this approach would be effective.

Hi Jitendra,

We have not tested with coupling between the grid-side and regulator-side chokes - my understanding is that they should be decoupled. However, if it works for a passive filter, it should be fine for an active design as well.
