Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS92638-Q1, TPS61199,
Hi team,
We are looking for 6ch/8ch LED device, do you have any recommendation?
- VIN: 24V
- ch#: 6 or 8
- IOUT: 60mA/ch max.
- Control: EN or PWM, no serial interface
Best,
Zeming

Hi Zeming,
May I know how many LEDs in one string? I need to decide whether it's a buck or boost topology.
BR
Patrick
Hi Patrick,
Sorry, 6pcs of white LED in series per ch. I think it should be buck.
But the customer prefers simple solution, the current is also not very large (60mA), thus do we have any linear device for this case?

Zeming
Hi Zeming,
Is the LED Vf = 3V? I'm afraid using linear drivers will leave too much voltage on IC pins which will influence the system efficiency.
And will customer consider using single channel LED drivers which will be simple and have more choices?
BR
Patrick
Hi Patrick,
Yes, VF is about 3V. Multichannel is better considering the size and cost. We need a simple system thus efficiency can be lower prioritized.
I am thinking if TPS92638-Q1 is good, please let me know if you have other suited solution, both linear and SW will be helpful.

Zeming
Hi Zeming,
Let me search our devices and give you feedback later.

Hi Patrick,
Any update?
I also found TPS61199 as buck topology option. So I plan to propose TPS61169 and TPS92638-Q1.
Hi Zeming,
Sorry for the late. Will customer also consider the automotive devices?
BR
Patrick
Yes, automotive is acceptable.
And sorry TPS61169 is boost device, it is not suitable.
Hi Zeming,
TPS92638-Q1 looks good but I'm still concern about the extra voltage drop on IC if 24V Vin and 18V Vout. If you have further questions about this IC, I'd suggest you post a new thread to LED-AL team since they are more familiar with this part than me.
For one channel LED drivers, I mean to use only one LED driver to control all the 6 or 8 channels together. So this will be more cost efficient and with smaller size. Could you please kindly ask customer if they have any concern about the current uniformity with one channel solutions?
BR
Patrick
Hi Patrick,
Thank you, I have talked to the customer, he thinks he can add resistors to drop down the voltage to reduce the heat in TPS92638-Q1.
We can close the thread, I will email you and your team if I need more support.
Best,
Zeming
