TPS62816-Q1: regarding output capacitor

Part Number: TPS62816-Q1

Hello Team,

In the TPS62816 datasheet, for the output capacitor following formula has been mentioned. What does 32uF x V, what is 'V' here??? However with the standard formula which is provided in the application notes is not able to give the required output capacitor value????

  • Hi Roopa,

It is only to compensate the unit.  I would suggest to divide the output voltage with respective compensation setting to get the min output caps requirements.  Values define here are from internal compensation settings.

Can you share which app note are you following ?

    Best regards,

    Tanvee

  • Hey Tanvee,

What I understood is :32uF *(1/Vout)    ----Comp setting 1 (SSC disabled)??? is that correct?

please find the APP NOTE :https://www.ti.com/lit/an/sluaag4/sluaag4.pdf?ts=1681285572492&ref_url=https%253A%252F%252Fwww.google.com%252F

It would be really helpful if you could suggest suitable APP NOTE for internally compensated converters as we are doing worst case calculation for different switching regulators with different ratings.

  • Hi Roopa,

Correct. Comp setting 1 is for SSC disable. Value define for caps ae the min and lower value than suggested will make converter unstable.

I would sugget to use Webench model that can give you the switching loss of converter and may be considering the caps de rating and variation can help for worse case analysis.

Let me know if any information is missed out. Could you also share details on the end application? It can help to understand the parameters requirements.

    Best regards,

    Tanvee

  • Hey Tanvee,

thanks for the response. Regulators are being used to derive  some critical voltages  with load requirement. If you could suggest the application note to estimate the input capacitance and output capacitance with the transients overdesigning could be avoided.

    Thanks,

    regards,

    Roopa.

  • Hi Roopa,

Datasheet has suggested the min input and output capacitance values. We don't have any additional app note for it. There is simulation model available which can give you device performance in load transients with different configuration.

    Best regards,

    Tanvee
