TLV758P: to power the ethernet PHY

Part Number: TLV758P

Hi,

For our new project we are plan to use TLV75801 LDO to power the core supply of 1.25V for an ethernet PHY. The maximum supply current drawn by the ethernet core will be around 260mA. TLV75801 is used in the EVK of the ethernet PHY.

While we use LDO to power ethernet PHY in our earlier design, we were faced the thermal issues that the LDO chip become too heated and the PCB also will be heated. So we are changed to switching regulator in that design. Similarly we have concern that if we use the above LDO to power up the PHY, Is it cause any thermal issues to the board? If there any thermal data/test results available for this LDO, please share. There is high accuracy requirement for this core voltage of the PHY, so that this LDO is chosen for the application.

So please help us to make a conclusion to go with this LDO solution or do we need to change to switching regulators.

  • Hi Remya,

Thank you for reaching out to us.

What is the expected thermal dissipation and package being used? In addition, how many layer is the PCB? PCB design is a very important factor for heat dissipation.

    Best,
