LM3409: Better layout, less heating

Part Number: LM3409

Hello,

I am designing a laser driver that must be able to produce a current between 0.5 and 4 ampere. The first version is heating quite a lot, especially near the mosfet and the re-circulating diode.

I already did some improvement for the future version but I am wondering if someone could give me some tips to reduce the heating.  For example, will it help to reduce the frequency by increasing Roff ?

Thank you in advance

Cedric
