LP5868: Power calculations

Part Number: LP5868
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LP5861T

I ordered a quantity of LP5868RKPR from TI.

I am using it to control laser diodes. These are single mode 830nm 200mW JDSU 5430-J1 series, with an operating voltage of approx 3V

The typical operating current for each diode is 250mA at an operating voltage of 3V

Please check my calculations below:

To drive each LED, I must tie 5 CS pins in parallel to source 250mA of current.

However, because the forward voltage for each LED is 3V, and the max VLED for the 5868 is 5.5V, if I use a 5V power source for VLED, I can only drive one LED per five CS pins tied in parallel. This is because I cannot tie 2 LEDs in series to each five CS pins because I cannot supply the series voltage of 6V on VLED to drive 250mA of current through 2 laser diodes connected in series.

Therefore one 5868 can only be used to drive 3 of these laser diodes in TOTAL.
