BQ76952: BQ76952 short circuit issue

Part Number: BQ76952

It has protection latch function, but the ASCDL flag is not set, the RSEN resistor is changed to 1mR, and the short circuit protection threshold is set at 250A. The actual short circuit current is about 900A. What is the cause of the short circuit?

  • Hello,

Using a 1-mOhm sense resistor at 250-A causes a differential voltage which exceeds the absolute maximum of 200-mV stated in the datasheet.

You can try using a 0.5-mOhm resistor. This resistor would need to have low tolerance. Or if suitable for your application, you can try lowering the triggering current to 200A or below.

Noises on the sense resistor path can also affect the accuracy. Please see this E2E thread to check your ground connections of your board if using a custom board.

    Regards,
    Jose Couso
