I wonder how does bias work to improve it.

Hi Brian,
BIAS helps improve AC and DC performance when VIN ≤ 2.2V because it provides proper headroom to the internal circuitry when the main supply (VIN) is not sufficiently high. Once VIN is sufficiently high (i.e. > 2.2V), the internal circuitry has the proper headroom from VIN itself and hence BIAS is not required for this case.
