LM3421: Spice simulation of Boost Application

Part Number: LM3421

Hi ti team,

I tried to simulate the Boost Application circuit shown in the LM3421 datasheet but could not get a constant output.

I am sending you the simulation file and the obtained I_LED trace. It would be helpful if you could point out any mistakes.

Please let me know if you have any necessary information to add.

Thank you for your help.

  • Hi Miyoshi,

I will take a look at this.

BTW, what software do you use? Do you use PSPICE-FOR-TI?

    Best Regards,

    Steven

  • Hi Steven,

Yes, I use PSPICE for TI.

    Many thanks for your support.

    Regards,

  • Hi Miyoshi,

Understood. As this is an old device, it may take me some time to figure out what is happening here. Please expect some delay.

Meanwhile, we have some newer devices that may better suit your application. Could you share with us your spec requirement (like Vin, Vout, Iout, dimming requirement, etc.)? We can talk through e-mail if needed.

    Best Regards,

    Steven

  • Hi Steven,

    I really appreciate your help.
I'm still in the process of considering, but I assume the following spec:

    Vin: 5V
    Vout: 30V
    Iout: 100-500mA
    Dimming ratio: 0-100
    Dimming frequency (max): 5kHz

    Please respond on the forum.
Once the detailed specifications are finalized I will consult with you again via email.
    Thank you for your support.

    Regards,

    Miyoshi

  • Hi Miyoshi,

Got it. The spec of our new device matches your requirement and has better performance than LM3421. Do you have an TI FAE contact window? I can send you the promotion slides first.

Meanwhile, I am still trying to figure out what's happening in your simulation. Please give me more time because LM3421 is an old device. Thanks.

    Best Regards,

    Steven

  • Dear Steven,

I appreciate your efforts in finding a better performance device.
Could you please provide me with a contact window for TI FAE?
Also, I would appreciate it if you could send me the slides.
Lastly, I wanted to inform you that I will be taking a two-week vacation starting tomorrow,
so my reply may be delayed. Thank you for your understanding. Best regards, Miyoshi
  • Hi Miyoshi,

I have sent you a friendship request on this E2E forum with my email address attached. You can send me an email and we can talk about the new product there.

Meanwhile, I will try to find the appropriate TI FAE contact window for you.

    BR,

    Steven
