Hi All,

The Device TPSM5D1806 has a pin called BP5 which as per the data sheet is a 5 V nominal (Range = 4.8 V to 5.2 V) regulated output.

My question is : 

If I use Vin = 5 V, can the BP5 will still provide 5 V regulated output or is there any lower limit on Vin for which BP5 may not be active as a regulator ??

Also what is the drive capability of BP5 as a regulator ?

  • The undervoltage lockout (UVLO) on the BP5 is 3V and the dropout voltage is a max of  550mV at 70mA with a 4.5V PVIN voltage.   

    The PVIN uvlo is 3.9V.  If the PVIN voltage is less than 3.9V, the device will shutoff.   Similarly, if the voltage on BP5 is less than 3V the device will shut off.

    As per my understanding from the data sheet of TPSM5D1806, the BP5 Pin is an output of the internal fixed LDO. I don't think that we have any control on the BP5 voltage output. Or do we have ? The Datasheet says that BP5 voltage output will be fixed 5 V ( between 4.8 to 5.2 V ).

    If BP5 is the output of a fixed internal LDO then how can this pin have a UVLO on it ? UVLO is associated with Power Supply Input Pins, right ?

    I rephrase my question : 

    1. If Vin = 5 V, will the BP5 Pin give 5 V +/- 0.2 V output or any other voltage value ?

    2. What is the max current that BP5 can source to a load when it is active and in regulation mode ?

  • The BP5 is a fixed output with a min\max of  4.8V to 5.2V at 70mA with a VIN>6V over junction temperature range from the EC table. 

    The BP5 is intended to be used only as a source for the device  and a pullup source for the PGOOD resistors. (The base IC TPS541620 is more explicit on BP5)

    Since the BP5 is a voltage source for the internal circuits and power stage, the BP5 has an uvlo circuit.     

    The BP5 is also current limited.  

    1.   BP5 will be lower than VIN and will depend on the load current on BP5.     

    At 4.5V on VIN with an external 70mA, the dropout voltage is a maximum of 550mV.   

    2.  at 6V or greater on VIN   BP5 is tested with a 70mA external load.   

    The BP5 is intended to source internal circuits and PGOOD pull up resistors only.
