BQ79731-Q1: Using BQ79731-Q1 in an external Battery Charger

Part Number: BQ79731-Q1

Hi,

I am going to use BQ79731-Q1 in an external EV battery charger, outside the EV.

It will monitor battery pack voltage, current and temperature and I will use that to estimate battery SOC and SOH during and at the end of charging.

Typically when an external battery charger communicates with an EV battery management system, what kind of information is shared with that external charger to use for its charging profile? Does this information include battery maximum/minimum voltage, maximum current, SOC, SOH etc.? Typically, it should do that otherwise how a charger knows to set the charging profile? What is the protocol for this communication? Is it through CAN? Does it share the initial SOC and SOH so that the external charger can estimate final SOC and SOH after charging? What is the right document or standard to look and find this information.

I know inside the EV, the internal battery charger has access to some detailed information such as battery chemistry, maybe battery voltages at cell level or parallel assembly level instead of the battery pack level information. So it can perform cell balancing etc. Which part of these internal information is shared with an external charger?

My question maybe not directly related to BQ79731-Q1 specification but will help me with my design architecture and chose correct parts. I appreciate your time to give me direction on this.
