LP5860: Automotive qualified RGB matrix driver.

Part Number: LP5860
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LP55231, LP5864, LP5890

Hello Team,

I am working on the automotive interior lighting.

I am working on the interior mood lighting.

The requirement from customer to have the RGB LEDs whose color can be changed from the infotainment. It should have animation effects.

In this can I use the LP586X series RGB driver or not? Whether LP586X is automotive qualified and if not then which is best suitable device for this kind of application.

BR,

Shashank Upadhye

  • Hi Shashank,

    Nice to hear you.

I think you need to change the LED's current or PWM duty cycle according to the infotainment information, such as change the RGB color with music.

If it is the effect you want to achieve, LP586x family is suitable for you.

But you need to use MCU to send I2C/SPI commend to change the output current for each LED dots to change the color of LEDs.

If you want to do some auto animation function, such as auto breathing, LP586x cannot do that, because the register for setting output current need to be configured by MCU, which means you need to keep sending commend to LP586x to adjust the output current.

If you are looking for the device which can adjust the output automatically, please look as device like LP55231 which has auto animation engine.

Besides, we also have a new device named "Ruri" which can control up to 12 LEDs by only 4 output pins, this device also integrate auto animation engine and can achieve very complex auto animation effect without MCU keep sending data.

If you are interested about the new device, please use message function contact me and I will share you more information about it because it is not released to ti.com yet.

    Thanks!

  • Hello Ives,

    Thank you for your feedback.

Can you please let me know whether we can use LP586X in automotive applications.

    BR,

    Shashank U.

  • Hi Shashank,

    Sorry I misunderstand the question.

Considering the operation ambient difference between industrial and automotive material, only LP5864/6/0M could be used on up to 125· ambient temperature,so please use the “M” version part number on your automotive application.

Besides,we have device LP5890/1-Q1 and TLC6C5748/24-Q1 could be used on automotive application.

    Thanks!
