BQ24780S: The battery can not be charged at the charging current set in Charge Current ()

Part Number: BQ24780S

Hello experts.

I set Charge Current () to 2816 mA and Charge Voltage () to 16880 mV to start charging.

However, when the battery voltage is 13200 mV, the charging current is about 1600 mA.

Furthermore, as the battery voltage increases, the charging current decreases.

It's like constant power control at about 21 W.

Do you understand why this happens?

Is it an error in register settings or selection of circuit components?

The battery can not be charged at the charging current set in Charge Current ().xlsx

Thanks and best regards.

  • Hello Tomoyo,

Please refer to section 7.4.1 Battery Charging of the datasheet

When the battery voltage increases and begins to reach the same level as the charging voltage, the charging current begins to decrease. It's strange that the current begins to decrease at that low voltage level. Can you provide me with more information.

    What is the input current/voltage?

Can you measure the voltage across both of the current sense resistors?

Can you provide me with you schematic?

    Best Regards,

    Christian.
