BQ79616-Q1: Usage of BQ79606 as a bridge with BQ79616

Part Number: BQ79616-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ79616, BQ79656-Q1, , BQ75614-Q1, BQ79606-Q1

Hello

I would like to know if it is possible to use a BQ79606 as a bridge to a stack of BQ79616 devices, as illustrated in the image:

In case this is possible, I would also like to confirm that this configuration is also possible if I use BQ75614 or BQ79656 instead of BQ79606, since I understand that these devices are pin to pin compatible.

Thanks in advance for your help

  • Hi Carlos,

The BQ79606-Q1 is not compatible to talk to a stack of BQ79616-Q1 devices as a bridge device. The BQ75614-Q1 is also not able to be used as a bridge since it is a non-stackable monitor. However, the BQ79656-Q1 device is able to be configured as a bridge device for the setup you mentioned.

    Best Regards,

    Julia Louis

  • Julia, thank you for your reply.

Unfortunately I don't think I fully understand, so I send some follow up questions, I hope it is not a problem:

    1) Maybe this first is a dumb question, but just to confirm: Can a BQ79616 be used as a bridge for a stack of the same components BQ79616?

    2) From your answer I understand that the BQ79606 can not be used as a bridge to any of the others monitors. Am I understanding this right?

    3)

the BQ79656-Q1 device is able to be configured as a bridge device for the setup you mentioned.

OK, and is it possible the opposite? I mean: use a BQ79616 as a bridge to a stack of BQ79656.

The reason behind these questions is that I am trying to understand how compatible are these differents ICs in order to select one of them for my design.

    Thanks again for your help!

  • Hi Carlos,

    Happy to provide additional clarification!

    1. Yes, the BQ79616-Q1 can be used as a bridge/base for a stack of more BQ79616-Q1 devices.

    2. Yes, your understanding is correct. The BQ79606-Q1 device is not compatible to be used as a bridge for multiple BQ79616-Q1 devices in a stack.

    3. Yes, it should be possible to use a BQ79616-Q1 device as a base/bridge to a stack of BQ79656-Q1 devices.
