UCC28180: PFC BOOST CONVERTOR

Part Number: UCC28180

Dear sir,

I am USING UCC28180DR. when switching the mosfet Gate to source voltage generate the spike. when I increase the load similiarly, spike also increase. please help me to resolve that issue.

  • Hi Deepak,

I believe Danilo posted the same question in another E2E thread. I've assigned this to our PFC expert, but I will pre-empt by asking about the probing methodology:

    1. Where exactly is this being probed?  I assume this is the gate to ground, but is it at the MOSFET or at the controller or somewhere else?

    2. Are they using tip-and-barrel probe technique? If not, this is what you would see if using the long ground wire found on a standard probe. In this case, the spike doesn't exist at the probe points, but rather between the probe tip and the end of the ground wire (inductor).

To make these types of transient measurements, it's important to minimize the ground loop by utilizing tip-and-barrel probes directly on the point of interest and the closest possible ground reference. Right on controller pins 8 & 1, or on the MOSFET pins 1 & 3.

This is a good explanation: https://www.cui.com/blog/how-to-measure-ripple-and-transient-in-power-supplies
