BQ24196: bq24196

Part Number: BQ24196

Hi IT Team,

I have evaluation module bq24196EVM and  try to run as Autonomous Battery Charging cycles with battery charging enabled at POR (REG01[5:4] = 01), but the bq24196 was not running charging cycle without host ( SW GUI). Can I be able to run Autonomous Battery Charging cycles ? Please advise.

Best,

TP

  • Hi TP,

BQ24196 should be able to function autonomously. You may need to adjust hardware on the EVM or your test setup.

-Have you checked if /CE pin is being pulled low?

-Are jumpers JP7, JP8, JP10 installed correctly to ensure TS1 and TS2 are in the correct range to allow charging?

-What are VBUS voltage and BAT voltage when you attempt to charge?

    Regards,

    Garrett

  • Hi Garrett,

Thanks for the response. I checked CE is low with jumper at JP5, JP7, JP8, JP10 are with jumpers installed. VBUS=12V, BAT=4V

See the SW program on PC setup below.

Should the bq24196EVM charging cycle continue charge/discharge on its own when disconnected from PC?

    Best,

    Tran

  • Hi Tran,

I have verified in lab that BQ24196EVM is able to charge normally when disconnected from host software.

Please try with Jumpers JP3, JP5, JP7, JP8, JP9 installed and JP10 installed between the top and middle pin. Image included below shows all jumper configurations on my board setup.

    Best Regards,

    Garrett
