LM317-N: Negative and positive voltage IC for OPAMP

Part Number: LM317-N
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: INA826, TPS7A33, TPS7A47, LM317

Hi.

I want to Negative and positive voltage IC with small noise for a dual supply OPAMP (IA). I use INA826 at my application.

I need +5V and -%5V(or smaller) voltage supplier.

The application main supply voltage is only +24V DC.

Thanks.

  • Hi,

Thank you for reaching out. We do have the TPS7A47(positive LDO) and the TPS7A33(negative LDO) that are commonly used in conjunction. Both are newer LDOs and will provide better specs compared to the LM317.

We also have the TPS7A39 which is a dual output LDO that generates a positive and negative rail.

In all cases, they support an input of 24V

  • Hi. Thanks for your response.

Can tps6040x be used for negative voltaj? What are the advantages and disadvantages compared to others?

  • Hi,

The tps6040x is a chargepump inverter and not a regulator and it can only supply 60mA to the load.

Additionally, as with any other chargepump, this has some switching frequency associated with it, therefore, some ripple will be generated vs an LDO which is a Linear Voltage regulator, providing a clean and regulated voltage.

Hence it is very common to have an LDO placed after a switching regulator, to help improve on PSRR and noise.
