UCC21520: Short circuit between OUTB pin and VSSB pin in the low side driver.

Part Number: UCC21520
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TIDA-00366, UCC21550, UCC21551

Hello supporter,

I used UCC21520 for a half-bridge 3 phase to control the motor. Initially, everything operates normally but a surprising error happens (short circuit between OUTB pin and VSSB pin in the low side driver). I don't know why this happens. Can someone help me for some reason?

This is my design (reference from TIDA-00366)

Thank you and best regard,

Phan

  • Hi Phan,

If it operates normally for a short time, you might be able to replace the device and capture some valuable waveforms before the damage occurs.

Can you measure the output voltage of the gate voltage? It might have some resonance that would lead to an overvoltage. You might need to decrease the distance to the gate if this is the case.

We are releasing samples of an update to this device called the UCC21551. It has many improvements based on to customer issues over the lifetime of this device. The version with a disable pin, UCC21550, will be released by the end of the year, but maybe you can modify your board to use this enable pin sample version in the meantime.

    Best regards,

    Sean
