LM5175: Alternate part validation,

Part Number: LM5175
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CSD19502Q5B, CSD17575Q3, CSD17577Q3A

Hello there,

Could you please confirm the alternate parts suggested by web bench can be used in the design?

1. MOSFETs required to be less Rds ON resistance, we could find few alternate FETs in work bench, can you confirm with out any need of validation we can put it in our design?

Thanks,
Sakthivel

  • Hi Sakthi,

Thanks for using the e2e forum.
In general, the alternative parts suggested by webench can be used for the according application.
However, I would always recommend to double check these parts with a look into the datasheet to see if all values are within spec and fit the application goal.
You can also filter for similar parts on the FET manufacturer websites.

I recommend to use the quickstart calculator for LM5175 for an initial validation of the design, as this calculator takes more input values than webench and therefore often shows more accurate calculations.
The calculator can be downloaded from here:

I hope this answers your questions and helps with your design.

    Best regards,
    Niklas

  • Hi Nikas,

Is there any guide / document is available with TI to understand the complete working of LM5175 4 switch buck boost controller?

    Thanks

  • Hi Sakthi,

Next to the datasheet, we also have EVM boards that are a good reference for testing and designing similar application.
They might give you additional insights in the behavior and functioning of the device.

  • Hi Niklas,

    Thanks for your support,

Could please let us know the alternate MOSFET parts that we have chosen from the work bench is compatible with the Buck boost part LM5175 and can be used in the environment where the Ambient temperature :- 60 Deg with the current rating of 6.5 Amps?

    M1, M2 -> CSD19502Q5B,

    M3  -> CSD17575Q3

    M4 -> CSD17577Q3A

Note: these parts have chosen based on the availability.

    Thanks,
    Sakthivel

  • Hi Sakthi,

    Thanks for the update.
To check if the FETs are a good fit, it is important to know all the input output parameters.
    Can you please provide:
    Vin range,
    Vout,
    max Iout
    selected inductor

If possible, please add the schematic of the application, as this speeds up our review.

Regarding the FET, it is important the max voltage specs are not violated during worst case conditions.

    Best regards,
    Niklas

  • Hi Niklas,

    please find the required inputs:

    Config 1:

    Vin range : 9 to 17V

    Vout 12V,

    Max Iout : 6.5Amps,

    Selected inductor : 4.7 uH,

    Temperature: -30 to 60 degrees,

    schematics not yet completed,

    Thanks,

    Sakthivel

  • Hi Sakthi,

    Thanks for the information.
From the LM5175 perspective, all three FETs from above look good for given specs, so I see no concerns with this design.

If you have any additional questions specifically on the FETs themselves, I would recommend to get in contact with one of our MOSFET teams directly.
You can reach them by setting up a new thread with the according FET part name tag.

    Thank you and best regards,
    Niklas
