TPS62825: Larger inductor

Part Number: TPS62825

Buck regulator team,

Is it acceptable to use a larger inductor with the TPS62825 in order to reduce the ripple current?  The customer has a load current of 800mA max, and is considering a 1.2uH inductor.

The datasheet recommend 0.47uH for most situations.  If they use 1.2uH, what other advice would you give?

Thanks,
Darren

  • Hi Darren,

Does the customer only wish to reduce the ripple? If so, can they consider the FPWM version of the device? It will ensure low ripple at light loads as well.

TPS62825 is tested and validated to operate with 0.47uH inductor only which will ensure the optimum transient response and loop stability of the converter. If they change it to another value, they should check the performance of the device for all their operating conditions.

    Thanks!

    Best regards
