BQ2980: looking for a battery protector

Part Number: BQ2980
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ25175,

Hi Team,

customer is looking for a protection IC with following specs.
Could you please recommend a suitable solution?

  • Overcharge detection voltage: >4.393 (max value of BQ25175)
  • Over discharge detection voltage_ between 2.7V >= and <3V
  • Adjustable max current of up to 3A (min)
  • Should be able to detect shorts and disconnect battery.
  • need a dedicated input pin for connection with MCU. Goal is to disconnect the battery and when charger is connected (USBC 5V, via BQ25175 4.35V) the battery automatically gets connected again.

Battery is a 1 cell LiPo, HV 3.85V 30mAh

BR,
Stefan

  • Hello Stefan,

The BQ2980 would work for their specifications. There are multiple released parts with OV protections above 4.3-V and UV in the range you are looking for.

This device provides OCD(Over-current in Discharge)/OCC(Over-current in Charge) and SCD(Short Circuit) protections, which can be adjusted with the sense resistor.

The part can also be sent into SHUTDOWN with a MCU signal by using the CTR pin, this will completely cut the connection of the battery. A charger is required to turn the device back ON.

Let me know if there's anything else Slight smile.

    Best Regards,
