TPS22941: current limit

To limit the current, the TPS22941 will have an integrated sense circuit that moves the device into a regulation state when current exceeds a specified value.

Please refer to the following figure which showcases how an inrush exceeds the set ILIM value for tLIM seconds until it settles to the set ILIM value. 

This ILIM value varies across temperature, process, and variation which is why we specify the min and max as provided in the datasheet. 

A device working nominally will typically current limit at 65mA, but any TPS22941 device could limit between 40mA and 80mA.

Hi Masa, 

Since the device current limits within a range of 40mA to 80mA, the device could current limit as low as 40mA, meaning it could only reliably drive <40mA. 

This is because when the device is current limiting, the device will heat up and overtime potentially cause a thermal shutdown. 

<40mA would be the absolute maximum current draw the device could reliably drive.
