TPS2552-1: automotive grave TPS2553-1 vs not automotive grade TPS2552-1

Part Number: TPS2552-1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS2553-1, TPS2553-Q1, TPS2553, TPS2552

Hello guys,

I have seen that the model TPS2552-1 is very similar to the TPS2553-1 (only enable pin is different) but there is no automotive version available. Which are the difference between them in manufacturing, voltage rating, temperature rating, etc? There is no differences in the datasheet. Since I work in an automotive company, I would like to understand if it is a viable option for me.

regards,

Ivan

  • Hi Ivan,

    Thanks for your reaching out.

Your understanding is right the difference between the TPS2552-1 and TPS2553-1 is the enable logic, the rest of specs almost the same as datasheet described.

Both TPS25221-1 and TPS2553-1 are for non-automotive application.

We have TPS2553-Q1 to support automotive application scenario. Could you please help check if this product can meet your design requirements?

    Best regards

  • Sorry for the late response.

I require the TPS2552-1 because we have tested against radiation proton test, and TID and we got the tolerance and the capabilities we needed while the TPS2553-Q1 didn`t pass the same radiation test and doses.. What are the differences between TPS2553-Q1 and TPS2552-1 then?

    Regards,

    Ivan

  • Hi Ivan,

I will leave for China Dragon Boat festival till next week.

I will look into this case after I come back.

    Thanks for your understanding.

    Best regards

  • Hi Ivan,

I have no idea with the radiation proton test, and TID, also the tolerance and the capabilities. Could you please help share more information about these? By the way, TPS2552-1 can pass all these test you mentioned above?

TPS2553 devices limit the output current to a safe level by using a constant-current mode when the output load exceeds the current-limit threshold. TPS2552-1 devices provide circuit breaker functionality by latching off the power switch during overcurrent or reverse-voltage situations. An internal reverse-voltage comparator disables the power switch when the output voltage is driven higher than the input to protect devices on the input side of the switch.

The main difference between these two devices is the current limit methods and also the enable logic

  • TPS2552 didn`t suffer any damages, while TPS2553 did the ENABLE pin was always LOW after TID. are there any reasons why you don`t suggest the use of TPS2552 instead of TPS2553 that it is clearly not suitable for our application?

  • Hi Ivan,

Shuai go out to have a EMI test today, I am not sure whether he will have the time to reply to you. So let me give some comment to you, I guess why we recommend the TPS2553-Q1, because it is the Automotive Version, and we don't have automotive version for TPS2552. Just double-confirm,  do you need the 'qualified for the automotive application'? Thank you.

    Best Regards,

    Kuno

  • Hi Ivan,

Please refer to below table for more details

2 series is enable with low, 3 series is enable with high.

the suffix of -1 represent latch-off current limit methods, the residual part number uses a constant-current mode for current limit.

D versions means multiple packages are provided.

Q1 product could support automotive application scenario.

Based on that, you can choose the right one as your design requirements, many thanks

    Best regards

    sorry for the late response,

automotive components are preferable but not mandatory. So we can use TPS2552. Thank you for your support. We can close this thread as resolved.

  • Hi Ivan,

Thanks for your update and good to see TPS2552 can meet your design requirements.

Please let me know if you have any further questions.

    Thanks and regards
