TPS65982: We recently had questions about the firmware code when using this chip TPS65982, please answer, thank you.

Part Number: TPS65982

Hello, our company has been using your Texas Instruments TPS65982 for a long time, and we have some technical problems about this chip recently.

When we use this PD Controller chip as the PD chip, we borrow the above GPIO for operation.
We used this chip before without any problems, but recently we found that our product had several problems when we used it. After many times of debugging, we found that our code lacked a Reset operation on the chip TPS65982 (configure the 0x50 register softreset). We asked the software engineer, saying that the Reset operation is in the firmware inside the chip TPS65982, so I would like to know what operation Reset does on GPIO in the firmware inside the chip TPS65982.

Did you just set GPIO to 0, or did you do something else? Because we found that there is a big difference between adding Reset and not adding Reset, and the result will be different from our manual operation of GPIO.
But this Reset is the operation inside the chip, because we need to ask your engineer about the chip TPS65982
.

  • Hi,

Thanks for reaching out on E2E!

I will get back to you by the end of the week.

    Thank you,

    Kevin

  • Hi Jim,

Thank for reaching out on E2E!

I understand that you have been using the tps65982 for awhile now. Is there a particular reason that you are still using it? It is a very old PD controller and it is not recommended for new designs.

Regarding the reset, the command that you are referring to is a Gaid which is the soft reset command.  The soft reset happens internally in our PD controller and all you would need to do is send that 4CC command to cause the PD to reset.

    Thank you,

    Kevin
