LMR16006: Hissing sound

Part Number: LMR16006

We use this part on several different production boards.

We just got a batch of boards from the assembly house: they make a noise not heard on previous runs: we hear an audible hissing sound, it sounds like it's from the inductor.

The hissing sound is louder when they are not loaded: they get quiet when we put a load on.

Can you point us to any documentation you have that would explain this, or give us some guidance?

  • Hello

This device will go into a low power mode at low output currents.  This mode reduces the

switching frequency in order to improve the efficiency at light loads.  If this frequency enters

the audible range, you may hear noise from either the inductor or the output capacitors.

You will need to consult with your inductor vendor to see if they can offer you an inductor

that will not create an audible noise under these conditions.

    Thanks
