BQ27Z561-R2: Current sense resistor value

Part Number: BQ27Z561-R2

Dear all,  BQ27Z561-R2 datasheet first page schematic presents that sense resistor can be between 1 mOHM to 10 mOHM. However in 9.4.1 Layout Guidelines it is stated that "The device is designed to support a 1-mΩ to 3-mΩ sense resistor."

So can I use 10 mOhm sense resistor? I design product that will use small currents and so I need to track 1-12mA range in good resolution. Also battery will be high capacity 4-20Ah and charging current will be 4A. So I need resolution and power in one solution. I estimated that 10 mOhm resistor should do the job but can I use it?

I do not see obvious way to program register and tell the gauge about current sense resistor used? I program the resistor value or it is determined automatically going through reference manuals procedure "12.2.1 CC Gain/Capacity Gain Calibration"  ?

Best regards
