TPS2372: Demotion from a class 4 to class3/type1 power?

Part Number: TPS2372

Will a TPS2372 set to class 4 accept being demoted to class 3/type1 power?

Thanks,

  • Hi Michael,

Yes, a TPS2372 set to PD Class 4 would accept being demoted to PD Class 3. From Table 3 in the datasheet for the TPS2372, a PSE Type 3-4 can demote a PD to a certain power level depending on the number of class cycles it delivers to the PD. In this case, to demote from Class 4/Type 2 Power to Class 3/Type 1 Power, the PSE would deliver one class cycle. The PSE allocated power at the PD would be 12.95 W in this instance.
