BQ40Z50-DEVICE-FW: Can't launch bqStudio

Part Number: BQ40Z50-DEVICE-FW
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: EV2400, BQSTUDIO

Hi Support,

We have upgraded to bq40z50-r5 (4500_5_03-bq40z50R5_tooltips) on one computer and successfully developed our Golden File file, but can't seem to launch bqSudio on another computer and connect to the gauge, despite attempting several permutations of a variety EV2400 firmware, BatteryManagementStudio-1.3.86_Build6-windows-installer, BatteryManagementStudio-1.3.101_Build1-windows-installer, bq40z50FirmwareBundle-5.03-windows-installer.exe, Windows 11 Home and Professional, etc.

The final approach we have taken is to;

Upgrade EV2400 to v0.32

Reboot PC

Uninstall bqStudio

Delete c:\TI folder

Reboot PC

Install BatteryManagementStudio-1.3.101_Build1-windows-installer

Run bq40z50R3FirmwareBundle-3.09-windows-installer.exe

Run bq40z50FirmwareBundle-5.03-windows-installer.exe

We then attach an R3 pack and successfully launch bqStudio, but unfortunately, we receive the message "Auto Detected Device: None" when the R5 gauge is connected.

Do you have any suggestions on what to try next?

Thank you,

Jeremy.

  • Hello Jeremy,

You may need to make sure that the bqz file that comes with the installer is actually in the BQStudio download path (config folder) otherwise BQStudio will not auto detect the gauge. What error appears when you attempt to connect? Is it only the auto-detection not working? Can you share some screenshots of the issues?

    Sincerely,

    Wyatt Keller

  • Hi Wyatt,

Both the 3.09 and 5.03 upgrade bundles successfully populate the config folder with the .bqz file

However, the auto detect function fails to resolve the gauge ID, returning "Auto Detected Device: None", as above.

This may suggest an issue with a lower level software communications layer, as the R3 works as expected.

By way of an update, we discovered that we can launch bqStudio for both R3 and R5 if we instead use an EV2300 with manually installed drivers

    EV2300a_Device_Driver_Installer_Multilanguage_0.6.exe.

Additionally, we found that an EV2400 with firmware v0.28 works with both R3 and R5 gauges, but v0.18 and v0.32 do not work.

    Regards,

    Jeremy.

  • Hello Jeremy,

Is this with a Windows 10 device? The software has not been validated on Windows 11 yet so there may be some differences because of the operating system.

Are you using our EVM or are you using a custom PCB?

    Sincerely,

    Wyatt Keller

  • Hi Wyatt,

The computers we are having trouble with are indeed Windows 11 based systems - I wasn't aware this is not supported, thank you.

Are there plans for a bqStudio release with support for Windows 11?

    Regards,

    Jeremy.
