BQ27542EVM: BQ27541_V200 GG file parameters change in production

Part Number: BQ27542EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQEVSW, BQSTUDIO, EV2400

Dear TI experts:

We found that in our prodtion, it occasional happen that some parameters are not the same as the GG file shows.

Just note that we use bq Evaluation Software in production to import GG file.

we exported the FLASH data from 20 pcs finished goods and found 2 of 20 pcs met below issue:

the FC Set % changed to 0, not 100 as we set.

the FC Set% is a threshold value, from my understanding, it should not change.

Did you ever meet such issue?

if yes, can you tell me the root the cause for such change?

If not, what is the possible reasons?

And how to make sure that there is no parameter difference in production?

Can we check some where in the SW to avoid such issue?

   Thanks in advance!

  • Hello Steel,

bqEVSW is not recommended for production. You can always read back the GG file to verify programming.

It is also possible that the data flash parameter was changed by some external command that may have been sent to the gauge. Was any other parameter changed?

    Hi Shirish,

Thanks for your reply! my feedback is below:

why bqEVSW is not recommanded for production? will it cause unexpected result? Battery Management Sudio is recommanded?

you said we could read back to verify the programming, but there are so many parameters, it is not good to do so for mass production,

is there any fast way to verify the parameters?

regarding the parameters changed, i attached the file, althoug there are other parameters changed, but they are related to lifetime data and calibration data,

they are resonable, only FC Set is a threshold value, no other threshold values change.

during production, we only send RESET, IT_ENABLE, SEALED commands, and do calibration operation.

  • Hello Steel,

bqEVSW and bqStudio are evaluation tools and not designed for production.

Other than that, the "golden image" needs to be written to the gauge, not just the gg file.

FC should not change to 0 even with bqEVSW, you can debug on your end to see if it is caused by bqEVSW or in some step later by accident.

Most customers use 3rd party tools for production.

  • Hi Shirish,

1.can you share me a efficient way to check the GG file parameters written to the IC, what parameters we need to check, and which parameters  we can ignore.

2.why EV2300 is NRND? need to use EV2400?

3.no TI Software for production? can you share a 3rd tools for production?

4.will FC Set % = 0 affect battery normal  use?

  • 1. The GG file is not the "golden image" and does not contain all parameters

    2. The parts used to manufacture the EV2300 are no longer available. There is an alternative that is available MKST-3P-ALT-EV2300

    3. You will need to contact 3rd parties directly for the tools

    4. FC flag behavior will be affected, RSOC will not be affected

  • Hi Shirish,

we want to know how to verify the GG file paramers are correct in finished goods in an efficient way?

we have stock in house and we need to re-work a big quantity from customer in the near future.

we received complaints from customer on the parameters, they said some are updated but some are default values.

we are urgent on this, this is high priority for us now.

  • Hello Steel,

The most efficient way to program and verify is to program the golden image and use checksum verification.

After that comparing data flash is slow because you have to read all data flash parameters and compare separately. It may be best to reprogram from an efficiency perspective.

  • Hi Shirish

can you give me the names of 3rd parties which can make tools for production so that i can contact them directly? thanks.
