BQ25122: Alternative IC to BQ25122 without buck

Part Number: BQ25122
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ25180, BQ25150

Hi TI!

Do you have a proposed alternative to the BQ25122 without the mandatory 1V2 buck converter and still with features such as HOT/COLD behaviour, battery voltage monitoring, VinDPM etc..?
We are investigating alternatives without the buck converter.

Regards,

  • Hi Lasse,

We have a couple alternatives that may interest you.

If you don't need integrated additional rails the BQ25180 (and BQ2518x family) may be useful. This charger includes TS monitoring, ship mode, VINDPM. Battery voltage monitoring is not available with this device but it can be very broadly approximated (only while VIN is present) using software on a host controller. Additionally it comes in a very small package and is simpler to implement and can achieve up to 1A of charging and can regulate SYS rail voltage (SYS on this device is the same as PMID on the BQ25122).

If you are interested in integrating additional rails the BQ25150 (and BQ2515x family) offers a very similar solution toe the BQ25122 (it is a successor device). It comes with an integrated 150 mA Load Switch / LDO like the BQ25122 and offers regulated SYS rail voltage. It also offers similar Ship mode, low-power mode, TS monitoring, VINDPM, and has an integrated ADC for monitoring battery voltage, input voltage, input current, PMID voltage, TS voltage and charge current.

If you'd like further help identifying a particular charger, I can help you with some of the following questions answered:

    - What input voltages, battery voltages, charge current, termination current are you hoping for?

    - Do you prefer power-path (separate system load from battery)?

    - Does it need any additional / integrated rails?

    - What additional features would you like to have?

    Best Regards,
