UCC28051: Why is UCC28051 topology in the device product folder "Boost" only?

Hello guys,

One of my customers has a question as the follows.

Could you please give me your reply?

Q. Why is UCC28051 topology in the device product folder "Boost" only?
I can see flyback reference design in the folder.

Also I think UCC28050 is family device of UCC28051. The device has more flyback reference design.
But UCC28050 topology is "Boost" only. What is the reason?

Hi Nakai-san,

A PFC controller is normally a boost topology. We do have reference designs like PMP9730 which uses a customer transformer to implement a single-stage PFC/Flyback. The UCC28050 was the first in this series and the latest is the UCC28056. These all should be able to be configured as a single-stage PFC flyback but that was not not their original design intent.

I hope this helps to clarify.

Q. I understood UCC28051 and UCC28811 use same chip by the following E2E thread.

For in case that UCC28051 is not delivered due to long lead time, can UCC28811 be used for a flyback or SEPIC circuit which use UCC28051?

Hi Kazuya-san,

Yes. You can use the two chips interchangeably.

UCC28811 product folder says that this device can be applied to Boost, Buck, Flyback, PFC controller, SEPIC topology.

So I think UCC28051 can be applied to same topology.
Is my thought correct?
