TPS2412: Any impact on the Rset design in 0.51k ohm

Part Number: TPS2412

Datasheet recommend the minimum Rset is 1.5k ohm. Since our design need a huge threshold, so we change the Rset to 0.51k ohm. May I know that have any impact?

BR, Gary

  • Hi Gary,

As you mentioned, Rset = 0.51 kohm resistor is out of recommended range (1.5kohm to open is recommended) and hence the TPS2412 behavior for this resistor is not characterized. This means the reverse current  threshold accuracy may be very poor as a low value Rset resistor is used.

Also,. the reverse threshold setting with Rset = 0.51 kohm resistor  will push the reverse cutoff threshold close to ~ -921 mV which means huge reverse current needs to flow to turn off during reverse current.  It doesn't damage the TPS2142 device as the operating voltage will still be within the absolute maximum range.
