TLC5917: About the mode when ESD is applied

When 2 kV ESD was applied to the board, the display of the LED turned into an unintended display, 
and it became a state in which the update of the display was not accepted. 
When I issued a command to return from Special Mode to Normal Mode, it was able to accept display updates again. 
Is it possible to unintentionally switch modes when ESD is applied?

Hi Takuya,

TLC5917 only has two modes, normal mode and special mode and based on your description, I think it's more like the chip got into a state by ESD and got stuck during special mode.

As for the reason for this phenomenon, I am not sure why this will happen since the ESD fault is unpredictable.

Thank you for your reply. I'm thinking of using a periodic mode-switching signal sequence to ensure that the TLC5917 is in normal mode. Are there other effective methods?

Hi Takuya,

I think it could be a feasible way so far to response the ESD problem you met. I am not sure there are other effective methods since this device is an earlier material. We can provide better support if you are willing to replace TLC5917 to TLC59283 or other new and same device.
