BQ35100EVM-795: Battery Management Studio not working with BQ35100EVM

Part Number: BQ35100EVM-795
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ35100, BQSTUDIO, EV2400

Hello!

I use BMS with Windows Windows 10 Enterprise. When starting and selecting BQ35100 ist says it is not compatible with BQ35100.

When I go on it shows the device for a very short dime and the the device is no longer available.

  • Hi Patrick,

If a window appears prompting you to select a device when you start bqStudio, this means that the bq35100 is not properly communicating to the EV2400 it seems you are using. If the bq35100 is properly communicating with the EV2400, when bqStudio is opened it will automatically register what device is attached and will display it on the dashboard.

  • Hi Anthony,

I followed the instructions. But it does not work. Can I damage the Eva Board when I use wrong settings J2 and J3? Could be I applied 12V in setting "1S".

    Patrick

  • Hi Patrick,

Yes, you can damage the board if you are using 12V with a 1S configuration. Typically, lithium ion batteries are around 2.2V to 4.5V for each cell, so if you are looking to source 12V into the BAT+ and BAT- of the EVM, you might want to look into the 2-4S configurations. On the EVM, the absolute maximum voltage inputted into the BAT pin of the bq35100 is 5.5V found in the datasheet, so the right configuration of J2 and J3 needs to be in place for this to work.

Below is the section of the circuit where you can drop the 12V to the correct voltage through using the resistor ladder connected to J3. This can help you choosing the correct configuration.
