BQ24600EVM: Can Q1 and Q3 be replaced with one diode?

Hello guys,

One of my customers is considering using BQ24600 for their new products.

At this moment, they have the following questions about BQ24600 EVM.
Could you please give me your reply?

Q1. 
In EVM schematic, I can see a back to back connection of Q1(Si4401) and Q3(Si4401).
Is the purpose of this connection reverse current protection and power switch only? Or anything else?

Q2. 
If Q1 answer is yes, can Q1 and Q3(Si4401) be replaced with a diode part though the diode dissipates power?
