TPS50601A-SP: Average model response vs load

Part Number: TPS50601A-SP
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS7H4001-SP

Should we expect the Bode plot frequency response to change vs load?

When using TPS50601A Pspice average model, there is no response change comparing a load (0.7A) to no load. Running response tests with models for the TPS7H4001 does show bandwidth changes with similar load changes. It seems the frequency response change vs load between these devices should be similar as they both use a similar control architecture.

  • Hey Mark,

You are more or less correct that the devices have similar architecture, how things are implemented internally is a bit different.
The differences you are seeing are related to the implementation internal to the model.

AC models for PSPICE are based on pole/zero approximations of the circuit.
The TPS7H4001-SP uses a more detailed approximation than the TPS50601A-SP model which is causing the difference here.

    Thanks,
    Daniel
