Hi,
I am looking to design a simple CC/CV battery charger for a 3S Li-ion battery. 


The LM3420 looks to be a good solution. For use with a 3S battery do you need to order the -12.6 version of the IC?

The datasheet states that the -8.4 version of the IC could be used for 1,2,3,4 cell applications but this seems incorrect.

Are there any other ICs you would recommend I consider in addition ot the LM3420?

    Hi Dan,

    The LM3420 is a legacy device released 25 years ago and we have very limited support on this device. For 3S Li-ion battery charger, I recommend to take a look at BQ24133 which is a buck charger can for 1-3S Li-ion battery and up to 2.5A charge current.
