BQ25756: Can we use BQ25756 vith BQ7694?

Part Number: BQ25756
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ76940, BQ76952

Hello,
I want to control the charge and discharge of a 15S battery by connecting the BQ7694 integration behind the BQ25756 circuit.
I want to adjust the voltage according to the battery type and adjust the current when charging the battery cell connected in parallel.
I am thinking of using bq25756 for voltage and current adjustment.
I aim to use the bq7694 integration to receive battery data and use it on the monitor.
These two separate integrations will be connected to a tej MCU with I2C and the data will be controlled from there.
Can you give a block diagram about this?
I would also appreciate if you can share if there are alternative or auxiliary circuits that I should use.

  • Hello Mehmet,

Thanks for working with us on this. I am the applications engineer for the BQ25756.

Can you tell me what your charge voltage and charge current will be?

For the BQ7694, you are referring to the BQ76940?

  • Hello Mehmet,

The BQ76940 should be able to work with the BQ25756 charger. However, you must keep in mind that the BQ76940 uses low-side FET driving FETs. So if there's a fault the ground connection between BAT- and load/charger ground would be disconnected, communication may not be possible. So an isolator would be needed to communicate with the MCU in this case (If the MCU is not connected to the battery ground). If the driver is not used, this should not be an issue.

The BQ76952 may be a better solution in that case, this is a 16s monitor and protector that uses a high-side FET driver, so ground connection will always be there, even if there's a fault.

  • According to battery chemistry, voltage can be set. The current should be adjustable between 0-20 A. For 14S battery we are working right now. We are planning to use BQ7694 for charging with balance.

  • Hello Luis,

Thank you for your kindly response.

  • Hello Mehmet,

Do you mean charge with the BQ25756? The BQ25756 should work for your application. The BQ25756 can charge at 0A to 20A and can charge a 14S battery.

I'm going to mark the thread as resolved, but let me know if you have any other questions.
