TPS54334: Available to use PGOOD signal as an EN

Part Number: TPS54334
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS51396A, LM2727, TPS51385, TPS51386

Dear team,

The customer would like to use PGOOD signal as EN signal. The purpose of this concept is for shut down the device when output voltage is abnormal.

Is it possible? please review below concept and let me know your opinion whether below concept is available or not.

If below concept is not possible, Is there any way to shutdown the device using PGOOD signal when output voltage is abnormal

In red box, PGOOD signal is floating or GND?

Thank you.

  • Hello Dino,

Sorry you can't. PG will be pulled low during this period that you point out.

Our device has overcurrent and overvoltage protection, but they are non-latch protection, which means device won't shutdown during protection.

I think what you need is 'latch protection' parts that will shut down the devices when issue occurred. Please look at our TPS51396A.

  • Hello Miranda,

    Thank you for your comment.

TPS51396A Is good option but The customer don't want to use MCU control signal.

So, Is there other buck that can use the PG signal as an EN signal?

And the customer don't want to use QFN package. The leaded 8 pin package would be better.

    Thank you.

  • Hello Nam,

LM2727 uses latch protection but is a controller, solution size is big. FYR.

Other latch protection converters that I found are QFN packages, like TPS51396A, TPS51386, TPS51385...
