UCD90124: Remote Temperature diode monitoring

The UCD90124 datasheet SLVSA29A – NOVEMBER 2009 – REVISED DECEMBER 2009 mentioned that the UCD90124 can measure the temperature using remote temperature diodes and it gave a circuit for this that required an extra pin to allow two current sources to be used.

The current UCD90124 datasheet SLVSA29B – NOVEMBER 2009 – REVISED SEPTEMBER 2010 does not mention this and there does not appear to be support within the Fusion Digital Power Designer for this.

Is this measurement mode no longer supported ?

Thanks for the info.

Shame as quite a few chips have internal temperature diodes and using these with a UCD90124 looks to be awkward.

Hi,

I'm using a UCD90124 with a diode to sense the temperature right now. The chips are great, it's just the GUI that doesn't support this diode mode. You need to send a TEMPERATURE_BIAS_PIN command with the right parameters (enable and pin number). This can be done via the GUI with the SMBus script import function.

I am wondering whether the UCD90120A device has internal temperature diode that monitors the temperature of the device. If the device has one temp internal sensor, how do I enable/disable the sensor in the Fusion GUI?

There is an internal temperature sensor. If the rail has a pin defined in as the temperature monitoring pin this rail's temperature will be whatever is read on that pin. If not, the rail's temperature will be the internal temperature. Even if the rail you are monitoring has a dedicated temperature sensor, you can still display the internal temperature in the GUI by checking the "Int Temp" checkbox in the upper left corner of the GUI.
