LM3414HV: Thermal protection and Tj max

May I understand where you read Tj is 125°C in the absolute maximum ratings? I am currently viewing the Rev. F datasheet and I do not find such information.

Because thermal protection threshold is at 170°C, i think the device can reach 120 130°C without damage itself

Yes, your understanding is correct. However, we do not guarantee functional operation of the device at any condition beyond those indicated under Recommended Operating Conditions. Please use the device under Recommended Operating Conditions.

By the way, I would recommend you use the next generation of LM3414(HV), which is TPS922052 / TPS922053. TPS922052/3 has smaller R_DSON than LM3414(HV) for the internal switching FET, which means less heat generated under the same input / output condition. Also, TPS922052/3 in VSON package has smaller junction-to-ambient thermal resistance than LM3414(HV), which leads to better thermal performance.
