TPS25940-Q1: Component failing/fusing, there is no Output

Part Number: TPS25940-Q1

As we used this component in one of our designs. I want to know, at what conditions this E-fuse will fail. As the Input voltage is 13.6V nominal and current 2A peak. Please check the Image attached for your reference. After few hours of usage this component is failing(no output), we replaced the component, the device started working. It happened to 4 devices for now. As we are going to production next month, this situation is so horrific. Please help resolve this issue ASAP.

Ans: No. There is no physical damage is observed.

We are using this in automotive cluster, I am suspecting whether any negative transient can damage the E-Fuse?

As we tried failing the device with Over voltage in that case it is short circuited.

But in the current scenario it is open circuit (No output).

Give your suggestions/suspects to identify the root cause for E-Fuse failure(open circuit).

Hi Kunal,

Our team is trying to fail the system, the E-fuse fails when hot plug in and plug out multiple times.

Seems some internal circuit getting failed. As the output rising till 4 to 5V and then dropping.

Hi Anish,

During hotplug VIN can overshoot above abs max rating of VIN pin and damage device. I will recommend that you atleast use a TVS diode at VIN to clamp voltage at safe level .

Hi kunal,

As per the shared schematic there is a TVS diode before choke, I think that is sufficient, if not pls let me know we will add TVS just before the E-fuse.

And one more think to ask like we are driving a TFT display its voltage is around 22V, we are using a Backlight driver(12v to 22V boost). Does it cause any impact on E-fuse.

TVS is recommended close to the device. You mean VIN of eFuse can go up to 22V?

No, VIN of E-fuse will go up to 13.6V only.
