Package drawing for RGZ0048B has same problem:
Hi Jeff,
I believe the reason for this is that for devices with a thermal pad, the dimensions of the thermal pad may vary slightly depending on which assembly/test site the device is coming from. So while all DRV packages are 6-pin SON and have identical pin spacing and package outline, TPS7B8150QDRVRQ1, for example, is coming from one assembly/test site, whereas there are other products across TI in the DRV package that might come from another assembly/test site with slightly different thermal pad dimensions.
Because of this, "DRV" is not a "one size fits all" distinction for all devices across TI in this package. So, as you noted, the specific package technical drawings can be found in the respective datasheets.
Please note that these variations in thermal pad size are small enough that all devices within the DRV 6-pin package are considered footprint compatible.
I've presented this information using DRV as an example, but this is true for other packages with a thermal pad as well.
Regards,
Kelsey
