BQ27542EVM: The disappearance of BQ27542DRZR-G1

Part Number: BQ27542EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ27Z561

I'm stunned that this part has been dropped from the website. It's irresponsible behaviour just to make it disappear, this makes it very difficut to ascertain the position with this device when we have not been informed about it.

Were it not for this thread, I would have found it difficult to determine that this part has now been 'moved'.

So, what is the recommended drop in replacement - is there one?

Do we have to design in another part?

For those of us who only use a few thousand per annum, are we limited to the stock in distribution or are they still being manufactured? What volumes are required to still be able to source them from TI?

  • Hi John,

TI will not be selling this part through TI.com anymore, however this part can still be acquired through authorized distributors.

There is no identical drop in for this part, however we still have parts that use the same size package such as bq27441 and bq27411.

If you are looking to use a newer part, we recommend bq27z561.

    Regards,

    Anthony Baldino

  • Hi Anthony,

Thanks for your reply - for the avoidance of doubt: Is TI still making this part but will only sell through authorized distributors or is it the case that no more will be made and so the only *stock* available is through authorized distributors? (like these - BQ27542DRZR-G1 | Octopart) I can read your message and convince myself that either conclusion is valid, so if you could be a little more specific, that would be very helpful.

Again, I think it is very disappointing that this part was simply removed from the website - or at least hidden. This is not responsible behaviour; surely the part should be present on the 'open' TI website and a clear statement made about its future availability - as in NRND or EOL or the type of labelling that is used on all your other parts? The fact that you have behaved so strangely regarding this part is concerning.

    Thanks

    John

  • Hi John,

I understand your concern. This device is still available on authorized distributers like Mouser and Digikey and can be purchased through those stores. As of now, the device is not yet EOL. If we do EOL, we will send a product discontinuation notice to all customers.

Let me know if you have any more questions!

    Thanks,

    Shawn

  • Hi Shawn,

Thanks for taking time to reply to my message. I'm still unclear - if we can buy through distribution and the device is not EOL, why has it been removed from the TI website. What is it that TI are trying to communicate here? Presumably, you would rather we used a different part - in which case what's wrong with an NRND classification? It's. just. weird.

  • Hi John,

We have many great battery management ICs on ti.com that will have better performance, cost and supply than the BQ27542. We are not actively promoting BQ27542 due to its age, but as I said before, it is still available for purchase.

    Thanks,

    Shawn
