TPS1641: efuse tps1641 is turning off after few hours of work with transient load

Part Number: TPS1641
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LMZ14203,

I put the efuse tps16413 in the main input of my board.

there are few dc2dc in the board after the efuse.

the board have the followed currents:

constant current of about 100 mA + transient pulse of 250 mA in duration of 50 uSec on / 50 usec off.

The ISET is 1.5A.

the transient pulse get out from DC2DC LMZ14203.

the efuse tps1641 is turning off after few hours of work.

could it be issue of in to out short detection?

pls. advise

  • Hi Zeev,

    Thanks for reaching out!

Yes, this could potentially due to trigger of IN to OUT Short Detection function. Can you please check TPS16417 variant (without IN to OUT Short Detection feature) fits for your need ?

IN-OUT short detection uses Isink (Shown Below) at regular intervals to measure the FET resistance by sinking current from OUT.  If the pulsating or switching load at output coincides with the switching of Isink, it could lead detection of IN-OUT short. We have specified Table 8-3 in datasheet to provide IRipple/Fsw of the pulsating(or switching) load which can be used with IN-OUT short Detection for Fsw > 5Hz.

For Fsw < 5Hz , IN-OUT short detection can be used.

But the frequency of Isink is not fixed, multiple samples are taken at different times for detecting IN-OUT short. During some of these samples, pulsating load coincides with Isink and hence asserts FLT pin for IN-OUT short.

    Best Regards,
