DCP021212: Adjustable negative voltage generator

Part Number: DCP021212
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LMR43610

We're looking to generate -19v from a +12v input with 100mA output load.

We current use the DCP021212DU which outputs +/-12v (we tie +VOUT to system Ground, and -VOUT is the negative output we use - resulting in -24v output).

Will the DCP021212DU operate properly if we scale Vin to less than 12v with a switcher to achieve a reliable -19v output?
I have not been able to find a negative voltage switcher IC in SMT package (not a module)

  • Hi,

Thank you for your question. The minimum VIN for this device is rated at 10.8 V and TI cannot guarantee its operation at less than 10.8 V. Additionally, for this device, only -12.6 V can be achieved from its outputs.

In terms of generating a negative output, you can find a suitable buck converter with at least 31 V and 160 mA input current capability, and then convert this into an inverting buck boost topology. You can try the LMR43610 and use this app note to help turn it into an inverting buck boost to suit your application.

    Thank you,

    Joshua Austria
