BQ28Z610-R1: BQ28Z610-R1, low temperature operation inquiry

Part Number: BQ28Z610-R1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQSTUDIO, GPCCHEM, GPCRB

Hi, TI expert.

Currently using BQ28Z610-R1, there is a problem in Low temperature operation test. Please check the attached video.

After fully charging the battery, leaving it in a low temperature chamber at -20 degrees for 6 hours and then operating at room temperature, the battery voltage is 3290mV, but the SOC is 100%.

It appears that the SOC algorithm for battery voltage does not operate properly.

Looking at other vendors' fuel gauges, it is known that they apply compensation algorithms for low-temperature operation or set specific registers to enable compensation for low-temperature performance.

Does the BQ28Z610-R1 also have registers, algorithms, or learning methods related to low-temperature operation compensation?

Please check. Thank you.

  • Hello,

All impedance track gauges must use the GPCRB tool for low temperature compensation after properly matching your battery cell with one of our ChemID listed.

Please use the tool to tune the internal resistance for low temperatures along with other temperature parameters. Instructions are listed in the shared link above.

    Regards,
    Jose Couso

  • Dear Jose Couso

We tested after applying low temperature data, but RSOC Jumped 100% to 0% in sleep mode at -20 degree chamber.

We updated Ra Table and chemistry ID suggested. What do we have to check?

  • Hello,

It looks like the Ra Table was updated, but the Rb table was not.

Did you follow all instructions in the GPC report? Did you program the given ChemDat file using BQStudio?

Please share the following using BQStudio:

    1- export the srec file
2- please share the GPC report

    Regards,
    Jose Couso

    /cfs-file/__key/communityserver-discussions-components-files/196/GPC_2D00_report.zip

Here are our GPC-report and srec file.

In bqstudio data memory, we can see Ra Table only. Rb Table is not found. Where can we apply Rb table in bqstudio?

After checking our files, please reply it

    Thanks

  • Hello,

I have created a new srec with the GPC report data. Please run the test and log using BQStudio.

If the issues persists, please share the log file from BQStudio.

  • Hello

We tested battery with srec file you gave us, but Symptoms do not improve. Are there any other points to review?

  • Hello,

    Please share a log file.

Did you find a good matching ID? If so, please share the GPCCHEM report.

    Regards,
    Jose Couso

These are our GPCCHEM report and raw data. When i get a chemID, is low temperature data needed?

And is any way to prevent RSOC JUMP to 0% by a certain resister when discharging in low temperature?

    Thanks

  • Hello,

Yes, low temp optimization is needed after finding a good match.

Can you please share a log file? I can help debug and provide possible solutions with a BQStudio log file.

    Regards,
    Jose Couso

    Hello

We attached log file. Please check it.

This fuel gauge is programmed by srec you gave us.

We loaded 0.2C(980mA) in -20 degree. It was terminated at 2800mV(fuel gauge's CUV)

But still RSOC was not changed from 100%.

We will test and attach a log file at -10 degree again.

    Thanks

  • Hello,

Our responses will be delayed due to US holidays, sorry for the delay.

  • Hello

We found what effect to soc. At low temperature, fuel gauge can't not remaining capacity  and full capacity value.

Do you know what causes this phenomenon to occur in a low-temperature environment?

  • Hello,

When we can get reply? please check a schedule. Thanks

  • Hello,

Jose is still out in the holiday.

Generally when FCC reports 0mAh at low temperature this indicates the temperature compensation is not completed (GPCRB) and the gauge is estimating that the resistance is so high, when the load select is applied during an FCC simulation the voltage immediately hits terminate voltage.

    Sincerely,

    Wyatt Keller
