LMR38025-Q1: Expected behavior when Vout > Vin?

Part Number: LMR38025-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LMR38025

Looking at a secondary power input path for our design which would feed the same node as the output of the LMR38025 buck. In essence, this would raise Vout of the LMR above Vin

Can we apply 5V to the SW pin, through the output inductor if there’s no voltage present at the Vin pin?  Will the body of diode of the internal high-side FET simply feed back to Vin?  In this case, Vin would be below the set output voltage, how would the LMR380025 behave?

Thanks,

Cameron

  • Hi Cameron,

Thank you for your question. This device is not designed to have 5V loaded to the SW pin and TI cannot guarantee this operation/behavior. In the pin FMA of this device, shorting the SW node to a supply will cause damage to the LS FET (see table 4-5) and leave the device non-functional.

    Thank you,

    Joshua Austria
