BQ76942: Charging IC, Fuel Gauge and MCU recommendation

Part Number: BQ76942
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ76952

Hi, we are currently designing a LifePo4 power bank and looking at BQ76942 might be suitable for our application. Can you recommend me a charging IC, fuel gauge and MCU that we can use in our product and if the BQ76942 is not overkill. We are looking for the most cost-effective ICs to be use in our product, so we do not select ICs with unwanted features.

Below is our requirement:

LifePo4 battery in 4S1P

Max charge current 10A

Stackable design (2 battery pack can be connected in parallel)

individual cell voltage, current, temperature, SoC, capacity remaining monitor in MCU through I2C

standard protection for battery like OVP,OCP etc.

Thank you in advance.

  • Hi Angelo,

Unfortunately, I do not have expertise in the fields of chargers, fuel gauges, and MCUs.  I recommend checking out the Reference Design Section of the BQ76942 and BQ76952 product pages, as these have example system designs and schematics that you can use as a reference. (an example from BQ76952 product page: BQ76952 data sheet, product information and support | TI.com)

Additionally, you may want to reach out to the chargers, fuel gauges, and MCU teams to hear their recommendations, as they have the most expertise in their respective product lines.

    Best,

    Andria
