LP5864: Short Detection

Hello,

in a few circuits I used an AS1115 for LED control and key readback for mechanical switches. In future we do not want to use this device anymore and one of my colleagues suggested to use the "LP5864 short detection" for the switch evaluation. Which key has been activated could then be transfered by the I2C Bus. Is it possible to use the short detection of the ports to transfer via I2C which port has a short circuit? And is an operation like this recommended?

    Hi Kai,

    Yes, we have evaluated this matter internally and we think LP586x family can realize this key scan function using LSD (LED short detection).

    Btw, we are developing the reference design for this application. It's expected to release on ti.com in March or April 2024.

    Hallo Herr Penner,

    If I understand correctly you want to do key-scanning here of a key-pad. Looking at the 4ch ADC to 4x18 LED driver I'm not sure if you need to support 72 key's here. If you need only 10 the TCA8418E might also be an option.

    Hi Kai,

    Yes, I agree as Frank said, TCA8418E maybe another solution.

    But for LP586x family, we can support different size of your key-pad and you can use the left unused output channel to driver LED. Btw, although I am not sure the real application of the keypad, but I think QFN package is better than DSBGA.
